Collection: Giuseppe Bavuso
Born in 1959, Giuseppe Bavuso lives and works in Seregno, Brianza, a district noted for the presence of a flourishing furniture industry. In 1986, he founded the Product Design studio with which he tackles different scales of design from interiors to automotive, train interiors, architecture, exhibitions and bio-medical equipment. His encounter with Bruno Munari was enlightening for the designer and fundamental for his career, marking his approach to the design profession from the very beginning. In the furniture sector, he established fruitful collaborations with internationally renowned companies as designer and creative director, facing product design in its entirety - from conception to engineering to visual communications. He pursues innovative solutions to improve product quality and durability and revolutionise the idea of contemporary living.
His association with Ernestomeda is a significant collaboration for Bavuso. He became its art director, producing kitchens with great ergonomic, formal and aesthetic value using sustainable and non-toxic materials and deploying "green" production processes. Some of his most innovative ergonomic solutions include the Cyclos swivel table; the In Space pantry; the Medley system; the In Line wall unit for the Soul model; and the Evolution pull-out peninsula for the IconColor model. The Air door and the Tag Filter handle respond to the concept of kitchen health and well-being. In 2013, he was nominated by "Design Index" for the "Compasso d'oro" competition for the Icon kitchen system and that same year, he won the Red Dot Award. He has worked with Rimadesio for many years, winning several national and international awards. These include first prize in the "KBB Review New Year's Honor-List For 2000" for the Zenit system of bookcases and walk-in wardrobes; in 2005, the "Design Index" for the Compasso d'Oro ADI competition with the "Graphis" system; and in 2008 recommendation for the Compasso d'Oro ADI with the Vela interior door. Other projects for Rimadesio include the Wind and Opus bookcases.
He also collaborates assiduously with Alivar, a Tuscan brand for which he has designed numerous products, including beds, sofas, bookcases, furnishings and home accessories. In 1990, in Köln, he won the 1st "International Design Award" for the upholstered Pick Up for Brunati, while in 2012 in Toronto, he received the second prize in the "Index Design Awards 2012" for the Skate and Kate lamps for Domus Line. Bavuso also has a long-standing collaboration with Erco, a Como-based window and door company of which he has been art director since 2011. His expressed goal of endowing the window with aesthetic value was the spirit with which he created the Shade collection, nominated in 2013 by "Design Index" for the "Compasso d'oro" competition, and Dry, with which the company won the Red Dot Awards in 2019.
