컬렉션: Raw Edges

Raw Edges is a design firm founded in London by designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, both from Tel-Aviv. After meeting in Jerusalem, they moved to London to study at the Royal College of Art, where Ron Arad, also from Tel-Aviv, taught the product design course. During their studies, the two began to experiment with design, driven by the desire to understand how objects interact with the environment and people through colour, material, and movement. Their approach is always playful and full of wonder.

After graduating in 2007, Yael and Shay decided to open their office in London, where they continued their experiments. Two of their projects - Stack and Volume - were presented in an exhibition held shortly after their graduation. Stack is a coloured chest of drawers obtained by overlapping apparently random volumes with different sizes, textures, and colours. This piece sums up their concept of movement and experimentation. Produced by the brand Established & Sons, Stack received the Elle Decoration International Design Award in 2009. Volume is pure experimentation - a series of prototypes made with paper that is folded, inflated, and veneered with foam. Cappellini later used the concept for the Tailored Wood table/stool, replacing paper with wood. It is now in the permanent collection at MoMa in New York.

Raw Edges subsequently established numerous and fruitful collaborations with furniture and design brands. They designed the custom flooring of stores in Milan, London, Paris and New York for Stella McCartney and created patterns for Mutina's Folded, Tex and Tape porcelain collections. They designed numerous carpets for Gan and Golran and furniture, accessories, lamps, coatings for Vitra, Louis Vuitton, Airbnb, Kvadrat, Moroso, Moustache, Lema. Among their many awards: the Designer of the Future Award for 2009 from Design Miami/Basel and the Best Design Award 2012 from Architekture und Wohnen.
