Maxalto was created in 1975 from the fusion between industry and the quality of handcrafting. In the same year the actual production facility was established and the architects Afra and Tobia Scarpa started the entire Maxalto collections, that would be signed by them until 1992. Their concept of home furniture was soon acclaimed as a reference model of Italian design. Their aim was to create a collection of precious furniture which strong point is the raw material, entirely made in Italy: wood. In a moment of broad experimentation with materials, the choice to use wood was daring and out of the box. The whole Maxalto collection carries the footprint of Tobia Scarpa, who brings together the search of iconic objects and the aim to set a modern environment where the geometrical simplification of the forms merges with the refined quality of the creations, thanks to the craftsmanship techniques.
Furnishing elements by Maxalto; precious materials studied to the tiniest detail
The architect Tobia Scarpa whose imprint is visible throughout the entire Maxalto collection, creates objects made of precious materials, by using wood. Well finished and elegant, such products are the outcome of masterful handcrafting. With the Maxalto collections, indeed, the ancient craftsmen techniques are recovered to offer sheer collectibles like the Febo seating, the Pathos tables and the Leukon lamps. Within the broad Maxalto collection it is possible to find refined items of design, able to meet the most peculiar and sophisticate requests. The Febo fabric armchair with armrests, belonging to the homonym collection, contributes to enrich the vast array of seating. The bergère with armrests is characterized by exceptional comfort, smooth and enveloping lines. The blanket stitch draws its silhouette and is a trademark of the whole Febo collection, a family of armchairs and sofas recalling a traditional model marked by the large backrest and often with no armrests. The sofas of this collection come in two sizes: a more compact one with a low or high seat cushion, like in the case of the two-seat Febo sofa; a more generous one, as in the three-seat fabric sofa. The series is completed by two armchairs also available with a low or high backrest, such as the Febo armchair signed by the designer Antonio Citterio.
Within the Maxalto collection, Lucrezia offers a modular system made of elements with a traditional seating characterized by a cushion with a bend and trim, or graced with capitonné stitching. All elements can be custom-made, with a range of covering in leather or fabric, with matching or contrasting velvet trims. The Simplex collection offers an upholstered fabric ottoman and sofas in leather or fabric. In the specific, the Simplex sofa with its one-piece seating comes in three sizes and is distinguished by the peculiar capitonné stitching. The Simpliciter collection offers upholstered sofas, armchairs and ottomans in leather or fabrics, with armrest conferring lightness.
The Max collection offers stainless steel and wood tables with a round and rectangular shape, besides a desk in solid wood. Especially the Max tables are a guarantee of lightness, elegance and forceful presence, a true icon among Maxalto creations. The distinctive element stands in the supporting x structure and a rectangular or round tabletop in wood. Pathos is the evolution of the Max table, of which it changes the frame into one in polished chrome-plated steel. The tabletop can be rectangular or round with rounded corners and is available in black marquinia, white Calacatta marble or painted wood fiber.
Bedroom and wall systems for the living area by Maxalto
The furnishing solutions by Maxalto do not end with seats and tables. In fact the offer also encompasses beds, storage units, systems for the living area and complements. Maxalto proposes a wide choice of modern beds aimed at furnishing the bedroom with a unique design. Alcova is the modern revisiting of the classic canopy bed, thought by Maxalto to become the absolute protagonist of the room. With a headboard and the base frame in leather or fabric, it rests on a platform that can even accommodate a storage element with an open shelf and a drawer at the foot of the bed. Though keeping the structural characteristics of a canopy bed, Alcova 2009 is smaller in size and features a higher headboard and mattress box.
Among the wall and storage systems by Maxalto, it is worth to mention Biblia, a bookcase developed in length and available in three heights, conceived to accommodate large volumes. The wide range of furnishing complements by Maxalto also includes benches, ottomans, side tables, suspended, floor, table, and wall lamps besides wall lamps, stools, bedside tables, consoles, room dividers and rugs.
