Founded in 2010 in Valencia by Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón, MUT Design is a multidisciplinary team of artists and creatives working in the fields of interior architecture, design, installations and graphics. MUT focuses its research on everyday objects and natural forms. Starting from these references, MUT interprets the concept of living with a personal and contemporary style, creating projects characterised by essentiality, rigour and geometry. Among their first products was Nautica, a suspended rocking chair in rattan or aluminium produced in 2012 by Expormim, a company with which MUT also created the Twins, Armadillo and Petale seating lines. MUT also collaborated with Ex.t to create consoles, shelves, mirrors and washbasins, and Diabla to create chairs, stools, armchairs and small tables. With Preciosa Lighting, the office designed the Chromo metal and glass table lamp and, with LZF, the Lens and Tomo lamps.
In little more than ten years of activity, MUT has received numerous international awards and accolades. In 2012, Wallpaper* Magazine selected them for "The New Wave of Spanish designers", while in 2014, they received the Red Dot Award Product design for the Nautica swing chair. They received Interior Design's Best of Year Award in 2016 for Twins armchair and the Red Dot Award, Product Design in 2017 for the same product. In 2018, they won the Edida Elle Decor Spain with Twins Collection and the ADA Archiproducts Design Awards with Arco. In 2020, Interior Design Magazine's Delta Seleccion and BOY Award were given to Armadillo Chair. They also received the ADI Awards with Bronze Delta Armadillo, the ADA Archiproducts Design Awards with Bow. In 2021, they won the Wallpaper* Design Awards in the Outdoor Entertaining category, again with Armadillo.
MUT presented the "A la Fresca" pavilion at IMM Cologne 2020. The installation evoked a Mediterranean lifestyle, blending exteriors and interiors, every element inspired by the Valencian and Iberian vernacular tradition. They also developed a series of objects and furnishings in collaboration with other top brands: an outdoor chair for Gandia Basco; a hanging lamp for Preciosa Lighting; a chair for Cappellini; a pouf for Sancal; a line of convex-shaped tiles for Peronda. MUT Design was commissioned to design five modular wooden pavilions - inspired by the Spanish "barracas" - to host a selection of fifty creative and artisan companies from Valencia for 2022, the year in which the city will be World Design Capital. MUT Design has created limited-edition sculptural objects reproducing the ADA logo for three editions of the Archiproducts Design Awards (2017-2019).
