컬렉션: David Weeks

David Weeks was raised in Athens, Georgia. Trained as a painter and sculptor, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990. After moving to New York to pursue his career as an artist, Weeks landed a job painting the store of designer Ted Muehling. Their meeting led to a formative apprenticeship, shifting his primary interest to design and changing the course of his work.

The designer found inspiration for his first lamp—known as the 101—at the 26th Street Flea Market in Manhattan. Employing his sculpture background and newfound knowledge of jewelry production, Weeks would dismantle existing forms to create entirely new structures. He began to produce lighting that possessed clean and modern shapes combined with the handmade feeling of one-of-a-kind objects. The concept of formal reduction and a hands-on approach remain at the heart of David Weeks Studio, carrying through to all areas of his work.

David established his namesake studio in 1996 in a repurposed factory in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood. Over the years he has developed numerous partnerships with designers, friends and companies alike. Projects include the co-founding of Butter (a product development company) with designer Lindsey Adelman, as well as working with Areaware, Kikkerland, Christopher Farr, Habitat UK and Flavor Paper, to name a few.

Weeks lives in Brooklyn with his wife and longtime collaborator, Georgianna Stout (Founding Partner of the design studio 2×4), and their two children.
