Collection: Emiliana Martinelli
Emiliana Martinelli was born in Lucca in 1949. She obtained the diploma at the Istituto d'Arte in Lucca - Ceramics Section and then at the Industrial Design at the ISIA in Florence, where she later graduated in Architecture. Immediately after graduating, she joined the family business, founded in the 1930s by his grandfather Plinio and later expanded by his father Elio, which in the 1950s focused on the design and production of lamps. With him, her greatest teacher, she began a long collaboration, developing together the themes and products that have distinguished Martinelli Luce's production all over these years.
Emiliana Martinelli is the president of Martinelli Luce and within the company she has always played a dual role: as an entrepreneur on the one hand and as designer and art director on the other. Infact she has been taking care of the graphics of both the communication and commercial material. She is in charge of the setting of the stands through which the company presents itself and takes part in most important events in the sector, both in Italy and abroad. She has designed many lamps over the years, both for the home environment and for a more technical purpose, which have won important international awards such as, to mention the most recent, the German Design Award in 2012 and 2014 with the Colibrì lamp and the IF PRODUCT DESIGN with the Colibrì lamp in 2011, 2013 and 2015, with the Circolar Pol XXL in 2014, Calabronet in 2015 and 2016, Luna Op in 2015, Calabrone and Condor in 2016 and Mamba in 2019.
Emiliana Martinelli has worked since 1965 with architects such as Gae Aulenti and Sergio Asti and continues to collaborate with important designers outside the company such as Studio Orlandini, Marc Sadler, Serge and Robert Cornelissen, Luisa Bocchietto, Paola Navone, Karim Rashid,
Alfonso Femia, Gianluca Peluffo and many others. In recent years she has selected young designers, Brian Sironi, Studio Natural, Studio 4P1B, Studio Habits, Simon Schmitz and others, and started collaborations characterised by the development and engineering of various projects that have won numerous awards such as the ADI Design Index, the Compasso d'Oro, the IF PRODUCT DESIGN and IF PRODUCT Design Gold and other prizes. Emiliana is a creative person who undoubtedly owns manual skills that also shows in her favourite hobbies: graphics, painting and also in the various (light) installations she has created for particular events of various kinds.
